UNESCO and Partners Validate Key Findings to Transform Career Guidance in Jordan’s TVET Sector

Amman – 14 January 2025

UNESCO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Global Affairs Canada, hosted a consultation workshop to validate findings from the Career Guidance Review for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in Jordan. Held under the framework of the “Technical Assistance for Transforming TVET in Jordan” project, the workshop marked a significant step toward advancing career guidance systems in schools.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including stakeholders from international development agencies, MoE representatives, government agencies, and NGOs working in career guidance. Discussions focused on findings and recommendations from the Review conducted between October 2024 and January 2025 which focused on developing career guidance systems tailored to economic contexts, evolving labor market demands, and students’ career preferences.

Key recommendations included enhancing societal perceptions of TVET through industry engagement, leveraging the use of EdTech solutions and digital platforms to provide accessible and interactive career guidance, promoting early and inclusive career guidance, integrating a green economy focus, and addressing industry- related challenges, such as negative perceptions of TVET. Participants agreed on the need to develop policy reform for encouraging lifelong learning and academic or vocational transitions.

Participants also explored practical approaches to implement these recommendations, including aligning efforts with the MoE’s frameworks, enhancing career counselors’ skills, and organizing job fairs to bridge the gap between students and employment opportunities.

The workshop concluded with a collaborative discussion on the next steps and emphasized practical action plans for integrating these recommendations into Jordan’s TVET system. This consultation demonstrated a strong commitment to developing inclusive and effective career guidance tools, aligning education with labor market demands, and empowering students to make informed career choices.

The Career Guidance Review is a core activity within the “Technical Assistance for Transforming TVET in Jordan” project (2024-2027), funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by UNESCO. This project aims to foster an inclusive education ecosystem by strengthening the institutional and policy elements of the national skills ecosystem, enhancing skills development, and enhancing perceptions of TVET in Jordan.

Outcomes from the workshop will guide the refinement of career guidance tools and resources to be piloted in selected schools under the project. These tools represent a critical component of efforts to transform Jordan’s TVET system, equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an evolving economy.
