Tata Zoo Marks Children’s Day with Nature Learning Activities

Jamshedpur, November 14: Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) celebrated Children’s Day today with a series of engaging, learning-oriented activities designed to bring children closer to nature and wildlife.

Every year, November 14th is observed across India as Children’s Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first Prime Minister, who believed that children are the foundation of a strong and progressive nation. His vision emphasized nurturing children through joy, care, and quality education.

Aligned with this spirit, TSZP curated a special program aimed at fostering curiosity, sensitivity, and responsibility among young minds toward the natural world. More than 500 children from various schools and communities participated enthusiastically in the celebration.

The highlight of the event was the “Touch and Learn” program, an interactive educational initiative of TSZP that provides children with an opportunity to get closer to non-dangerous biological specimens and gain hands-on exposure to wildlife learning. The activity helps demystify animals, encourages empathy, and promotes scientific learning through direct observation—an approach central to modern conservation education.

In addition to the “Touch and Learn” experience, children were also greeted with chocolates and engaged in conversations about the importance of biodiversity, animal welfare, and the role each individual can play in protecting the environment. Zoo educators and staff interacted with the children throughout the event, reinforcing TSZP’s commitment to nurturing future ambassadors of conservation.

Tata Steel Zoological Park has consistently been at the forefront of conservation education, conducting year-round programs such as nature camps, guided tours, awareness campaigns, school outreach initiatives, and special events aimed at improving public understanding of wildlife. Children’s Day provides a unique opportunity to inspire young visitors and strengthen the connection between education and environmental stewardship.

Speaking on the occasion, zoo officials emphasized that building ecological awareness among children today will lead to a more responsible and conservation-minded society tomorrow.

The event concluded on a joyful and inspiring note, with children leaving the zoo not only entertained but also enriched with new knowledge about wildlife and the environment.
