Minister opens online career guidance portal

Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty inaugurated an online career guidance portal ‘Career Prayanam’ on Wednesday.

Developed by the Career Guidance and Adolescent Counselling Cell of the higher secondary wing of the General Education department and UNICEF, with technical assistance from Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the portal provides comprehensive information on higher education, employment opportunities, and competitive examinations for students across the State.

The portal is accessible on www.careerprayanam.education.kerala.gov.in. It features a fully responsive design, making it perfectly usable on smartphones. It include content on over 400 careers, nearly 900 institutions, and around 1,000 employers.

To simplify career exploration, careers are divided into 24 ‘career areas.’ Users can find their preferred field through the ‘Explore career areas of interest’ section or directly use the provided ‘Search’ option.

Upon selecting a field, clicking ‘View Details’ offers a wealth of information about the career path: entry pathway, eligibility criteria, courses, institutions, career ladder, required skills, industry details, responsibilities, certifications, employer information, and further study possibilities.

For more clarity, the portal details the possibilities and challenges of each career path, including growth potential at various stages. This section aims to provide holistic guidance for students to choose a career that aligns with their aptitude.

In addition to detailed career profiles, the portal provides real-time updates on admissions, notifications, competitive exams, and scholarships.

Students also have access to information on institutions of national importance and key State educational institutions, complete with their official website links.

Direct access to the official websites of various institutions, entrance exams, and job search portals is facilitated from the platform.

The portal also offers essential guidance on career planning and crucial information regarding the Kerala Differential Aptitude Test (KDAT), designed to assess students’ aptitude.

Students can approach any of the 6,687 career guides in the State if they have any doubts.
