School Year: 2025-2026
Location: District Office
Reports to: Special Education Director
Classification: Certified Exempt – Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week)
Contract Period: 185 working days.

Salary Range

  • *$56,809 to $89,509 (Based on education and years of relevant working experience) *The annual salary listed above is based on a full-time, 8-hour workday (FTE 1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part-time or late-start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly. Certified Salary Schedule

Position Overview

  • The Mental Health Provider is responsible for providing direct therapeutic services to students, supporting their emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and contributing to the overall mental health initiatives of the school or district. This role involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of students dealing with mental health challenges, while collaborating closely with school staff, families, and community agencies to promote a positive supportive, and safe school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of students’ mental health needs, including the use of standardized tools, interviews, and behavioral observations to identify emotional, psychological, and social challenges. Develop personalized treatment plans based on these evaluations.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students experiencing emotional distress, mental health issues, trauma, or behavioral problems. Utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
  • Respond to crisis situations involving students, including immediate support for students in emotional or behavioral distress. Develop and implement crisis intervention plans, and provide short-term follow-up care or referrals as needed.
  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school professionals to support students’ mental health and academic success. Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to provide comprehensive support to students, including the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 plans as appropriate.
  • Provide counseling and guidance to families, helping them understand their child’s needs and connect with external mental health resources when necessary. Collaborate with parents/guardians to ensure continuity of care between home and school.
  • Develop and implement school-wide mental health programs and workshops aimed at promoting mental wellness, preventing bullying, addressing substance use, and reducing stigma around mental health issues. Provide psycho-educational resources to students, parents, and staff.
  • Monitor and follow up with students receiving mental health services. Coordinate with community agencies and external mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care and resources are accessible.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records of student assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, and other relevant documentation in compliance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA). Ensure documentation meets all legal and ethical standards.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Valid DORA License (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist, or equivalent).
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education Special Services License (e.g., School Social Worker or School Psychologist).
  • Previous experience providing mental health services in a school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development, adolescent psychology, and mental health disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
  • Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with IEP/504 process and supporting students with disabilities is a plus.

  • Full-time position with a typical school schedule, which may include occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings or special events.
  • Work is primarily performed in a school setting, with occasional travel for community outreach or training.
  • Exposure to sensitive or emotionally charged situations, requiring emotional resilience and self-care practices.
  • Ability to move throughout the school environment, including sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to participate in physical intervention or de-escalation techniques when needed (e.g., responding to crisis situations).
  • Use of computers and other office equipment for documentation and communication purposes.
