Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg schools plan e-learning day; icy roads
Upstate schools are making plans for Wednesday due to the extreme cold weather.
The Upstate is under a cold weather advisory through Wednesday.
Tuesday night will be the coldest this week, with temperatures dropping into the teens and single digits toward the mountains, according to Christian Patterson with the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are forecast to remain low through Wednesday, warming up gradually on Thursday going into the weekend.
Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near 34. The northeast wind will be around six mph, becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Wednesday night will have increasing clouds, with a low of around 17.
Spartanburg Day School
Due to the potential for icy road conditions on Wednesday morning, Spartanburg Day School will operate on a two-hour delay. The adjusted start times are as follows:
• Preschool: Early drop-off (parents must walk child(ren) inside) opens at 9:30 a.m.. Drop-off opens at 9:45 a.m. Classes begin at 10:00 a.m.
• Lower School: Drop-off opens at 9:30 a.m. Classes begin at 10 a.m.
• Middle School: Drop-off opens at 9:30 a.m. Classes begin at 10:10 a.m.
• Upper School: Classes begin at 10:30 a.m.
Please note that all after-school activities will proceed as scheduled. Extended Day will remain open until 6 p.m.

Greenville County schools
Greenville County Schools will have an eLearning day on Wednesday, January 22, according to a news release from GCS.
Schools and office buildings will be closed, according to the news release. All activities, including athletic events and field trips, are canceled.
“The District’s ICE (Inclement Conditions Evaluation) Team evaluated today’s accumulation of snow and forecasts for extremely cold temperatures, which may result in unsafe road conditions tomorrow,” according to the release.
Because GCS is an approved eLearning district, this day will not have to be made up and instruction will be provided through Google Classroom. Students will complete eLearning assignments later if they cannot participate due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers. Once operations resume, school personnel will begin rescheduling events as appropriate.
Anderson County schools
Anderson schools have announced that they will have an e-learning day on Wednesday out of an abundance of caution.
Anderson D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5 announced on their social media pages that they would go to an e-learning day on Wednesday.
Spartanburg County schools
Spartanburg County School Districts 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 have also announced that they will have an e-learning day on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for snow that is expected to impact safe travel in our area, according to the D4 post.
“Teachers will communicate details regarding e-learning assignments,” they wrote.
Spartanburg D6 shared a similar message on their social media pages.
“While snowfall in our area is currently light, the combination of snow and extremely cold temperatures is expected to create unsafe road conditions and pose safety risks for our parents, students, and staff,” according to the post. “We are sharing this message in advance to ensure our families have time to plan accordingly.”
Spartanburg District 7 will also hold an eLearning day on Wednesday, January 22, due to winter weather conditions, according to a post on social media.
“The National Weather Service has issued a “Winter Weather Advisory” and a “Severe Weather Advisory” for Spartanburg County, calling for a wind chill as low as -7 for tomorrow morning and the possibility of continued snowfall,” according to their social media post. “Unsafe road conditions are expected, as temperatures are projected to remain below freezing throughout tomorrow.”

After careful consideration, Spartanburg School District Three will hold an eLearning Day on Wednesday, January 22. The National Weather Service has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory and a Cold Weather Advisory for Spartanburg County, D3 wrote in a social media post.
“While snowfall in some parts of our area may be lighter than others, the combination of snow and extremely cold temperatures is expected to create unsafe road conditions and pose safety risks for our students, parents and staff,” D3 wrote in their social media post.
Additionally, all D3 afterschool activities and athletic events are canceled.
Spartanburg School District 5 will also have an e-learning day. “Due to a winter weather advisory and cold weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service, Wednesday, January 22, will be an eLearning day for all District Five students, D5 wrote in a social media post.
“While snow accumulation in our area is low, the forecast predicts temperatures will remain well below freezing overnight, creating hazardous road conditions for our buses, families and student drivers on Wednesday morning,” D5 wrote.
D5 teachers will be in touch with students regarding eLearning assignments.
Spartanburg D1, D2 monitoring weather
Spartanburg D1 posted Tuesday evening that its “team will continue to monitor weather and road conditions closely throughout the evening and early morning.
“Any updates will be posted on our district and school websites, shared on social media, and reported to local news stations. Families will also receive notifications through our mass communication system.
“The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
Tuesday morning D1 posted: Spartanburg One is on a regular schedule for Wednesday, January 22.
Spartanburg District 2 posted a message to its social media site early Wednesday morning.
“After an extensive check of the roads in our community, we have determined that our district will operate on a normal schedule on Wednesday, January 22.”
SMC planning e-learning day
Snow and projected low temperatures will likely make travel conditions dangerous on Wednesday, SMC wrote on its website.
SMC will shift to e-learning and remote work on Wednesday. Essential employees who must report to campus will be notified by their supervisor.
Students are asked to check their SMC email and Brightspace for information regarding Wednesday classes.
“If you must travel on Wednesday, please use caution and monitor local conditions in your area to decide if it’s safe to travel to and from campus,” according to the post.

Charles Lea Center
All Charles Lea Center day and employment programs will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, due to winter weather conditions, according to a post on social media.

This closure affects day programs at Burdette Street’s main center, ChesLea, and Charles Lea Industrial Services.
“Ensuring the safety of both those who receive services at the CLC and employees is our highest priority, and we appreciate your understanding,” according to the post.
Greenville after-school activities
The Greenville County Schools Inclement Conditions Evaluation (ICE) Team is closely monitoring weather forecasts, which have been inconsistent and continue to change, according to a news release from GCS.
Based on current forecasts, all after-school activities and events (except extended day programs) that cannot be concluded by 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, are canceled. This includes athletic activities, field trips, and other after-school events.
Extended day programs will conclude at their normal time of 6 p.m.

This decision was based on the timing of potential weather and the need for students and staff to travel home before dark, according to GCS.
Spartanburg District 2 after school activities
Due to the possibility of winter weather this afternoon and evening, all afterschool activities will conclude at 5 p.m., according to a post from Spartanburg County District 2’s website.
This includes after-hours programs at elementary schools, according to the post.
Elementary parents/guardians with children in these programs should make plans to pick their child up by 5 p.m.

Spartanburg D4 after school activities
All after-school activities, including athletics, are canceled for today, Tuesday, Jan 21, according to a social media post.
Spartanburg D6 after school activities
According to the latest update from the National Weather Service, today’s forecast has shifted slightly, with snow now anticipated in our area this afternoon. In response to these projections, District Six is canceling all after-school games and activities for January 21, according to a social media post.
* Elementary and middle school afterschool programs will close at 4 p.m.
This will allow parents, faculty, and staff adequate time to travel home if conditions worsen.
District Six will continue monitoring weather conditions to determine possible schedule adjustments for Wednesday, according to the social media post.
