BETH CLINTON: Activities ramping up at Charlottetown Library Learning Centre as new school year begins

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. Summer reading programs are all wrapped up and students are back at school. (Just a reminder the library has lots of tables and seats for studying and group work). So, now its time for all the exciting fall programs that are happening at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre at 97 Queen St.

Wiggle, giggle
For the little ones, regular weekly programs are re-starting in the childrens library. For the extra littles, our Wiggle Giggle Read program for ages 0-12 months is Mondays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 2 p.m. and having a room full of babies is one of the best times of the week. Toddler Time with stories, songs, rhymes and lots of movement for ages 1-3 and their grownups is Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Graduates of this program can make their way to Family Storytime for ages 3-5 (and grown-up) on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and ages 0-5 are welcome to Saturday Storytime at 10:30 a.m.
Ages 6-12 are invited to drop in for Creative Kids Club on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Each week will feature a selection of crafts, activities, science experiments and games. All ages family events coming up include “Reg Takes a Trip” book launch with Lori Gard on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. PD Day Movie: “Moana” is on Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. and an all-day opportunity to make your own paper bag scarecrow is offered on the same day. Oct. 5, well be hosting a Playdoh party at 11 a.m.
Code Club will be happening for ages 9-12 on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. starting on Oct. 2. Drop in to the Makerspace for some robot and coding fun. For ages 10+ we have 3D Print and Paint Fairy Doors on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Please register to reserve your spot for this program (368-4642).

Teens and adults
Coming up for teens, ages 13-18, Teen Time will be featuring needle felting (and snacks) on Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m. Drop in for Teen Volunteer Club on Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. and give us your ideas for cool programs.
Looking to learn something new and pick up some interesting facts? Join retired MP, Shawn Murphy, for a six-week course with lecture, discussion and guest speakers, on the development and workings of the Canadian and U.S. governments. Tuesdays from 6-8: p.m. starting Oct. 1, this program is open to teens and adults. Please call 368-4642 to register.
Ongoing weekly programs for adults range from Fibre Arts Club on Tuesdays at 1 p.m, and Scrabble Club from 5-8 p.m to Tech Help on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. The library also hosts EAL Conversation circles with IRSA every Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. and starting in October on Saturdays at 10 a.m.
Games and movies
Seniors’ Board Game Caf is back on Sept. 23 and Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. Movie Monday on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. will feature “Pride and Prejudice” (the Keira Knightley version), and Afternoon Movie Club on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. will be showing “Bride of Frankenstein.”

Drop in to Art Hive to make art (supplies provided) and conversation Oct. 2 and 16 at 5 p.m. Sewing Club is happening on Oct.10 from 5-8 p.m. Teens and adults can drop into the Makerspace to explore sewing tools and techniques. Try out our machine or bring your own; make new friends and learn together.
Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. is Seniors Caf drop in for some essential tips from P.E.I. EMO on handling hurricanes, floods and power outages.
