Here are classes and activities available during the month of June at the Community Learning Center along with other events and dates to be aware of. They have a special Open Hearts Story Time on Aug. 28. Volunteers from the Adair County Public Library will be at the Learning Center with Miss Bre and do a guide painting class to go along with the story. If you would like to participate on the 28th, sign up by Friday, Aug. 23 so they can be sure to have enough supplies for everyone.
August Activities at the Community Learning Center:
Coffee & Cards — Each Tuesday at 10 a.m. join them for coffee and cards or board games. They also have tea and hot chocolate if you would prefer. You can also bring your own drink to enjoy and a game to share.
Dance Aerobics — Come dance with Angela and get your workout in at the same time. You’ll have so much fun dancing that you won’t realize it was exercise!
Project STIR — This class for self-advocates who are at least 18 years old will help you learn to become your own best self-advocate, how to problem solve and negotiate, and what it means to be self-determined. This class begins on Tuesday, April 9, 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. – class full.
Cooking Class — Want to learn the basics of beginning cooking? This class is designed for beginners who are just learning the skills needed to cook on their own or with limited support. It will help you become familiar with several kitchen appliances and the basics to get you started. –—class full.
Fun with Music — Join Angela for fun activities that incorporate music and movement.
Crafts — Each Wednesday you are invited to join them for a fun and simple craft at 10 a.m.. Come ready to explore your creativity!
Open Hearts Storytime — Come join Miss Bre form the Adair County Public Library for a fun story with easy art project on a new day at new time! This new activity is great for visitors of ALL ages! – If you plan to attend story time and guided painting on Wednesday, Aug. 28, sign up with Melissa or Angela by Friday, Aug. 23 so they have enough supplies for everyone.
Get Fit — Have fun while getting heathy! Angela will help you get moving with fun workout videos, walks in the community, and more. This is one is a favorite for many.
CIRCLES Level 2 – This class is a continuation of CIRCLES Relationships & Intimacy. The class looks more closely at the people in each circle and how a person can move in and out of circles over time. To register for this class, the attendee must have completed CIRCLES Level 1. Classes will begin on Wednesday, April 10 at 3:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Science Fun — While volunteer Jim is away for a few weeks, come see Angela for some excitingly fun, hands-on experiments.
Chair Yoga — This exercise class with Angela can be done while sitting in a chair or on the floor using a yoga mat. You will follow fun YouTube videos that will help you stretch and relax.
BINGO – Join them each Friday at 10 a.m. to play BINGO and win BINGO Bucks to spend in the BINGO Store while having fun with your friends.
Other Activities and Information to Know:
Parent-to-Parent Group — August’s meeting invites anyone who would like learn what StationMD is and how you can benefit from using their telehealth services. You do not need to be a parent to attend this month’s meeting. August’s meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 22, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Community Learning Center. This month, Rebecca Keller, member relations specialist with StationMD, will be here to share the many ways that you can use Station MD, which is a telehealth service for people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities who live in Missouri.
People First of Northeast Missouri Meeting — CALLING ALL SELF-ADVOCATES! Grab your friends and come learn about how to become a member of People First. We will discuss why developing advocacy skills for yourself and others is so important, build self-determination skills and stronger relationships with other self-advocates. In August we will be meeting on Monday, Aug. 19 from 6-7 p.m.
Missouri Tiered Supports Family Coaching Series — This is a FREE opportunity for families and caregivers to learn more about positive parenting practices while receiving support, coaching, and resources from Division of Developmental Disabilities Positive Supports Consultants. The class consists of eight, one hour online classes, in the evenings. This makes it very accessible to people who work during the day and/or have families. The first class begins on Thursday, Aug. 8. For more information or to register, contact the Learning Center. If you would like to participate in this class and do not have the ability to participate from your home, reach out to the Community Learning Center. The Center has the resources to assist you in being able to take the class.
FREE Virtual Mental Health Trainings — Over the next few months ,Preferred Family Healthcare will be offering several opportunities for you to improve your skills to recognize the signs of someone struggling with mental health, suicidal ideation, and the stigmas of mental health.

Virtual Youth Mental Health Frist Aid (Sept. 10, 9 a.m to 3 p.m)
