Monday to be e-Learning day for Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson schools

  • Greenville County Schools canceled all weekend activities due to a forecasted snow storm.
  • Several Upstate colleges and universities have also announced operational changes and cancellations.
  • The cancellations are a precaution against unsafe road conditions and potential power outages.

Upstate schools have begun planning for the week. Record snowfall and extremely cold temperatures have forced schools to make e-Learning plans for the early part of the week.

Greenville schools to have e-Learning days Monday, Tuesday

Greenville County Schools is on eLearning Monday, Feb. 2, and Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Schools and office buildings will be closed, and all activities, including athletic events and field trips, are cancelled.

“This decision was made based on current snow and ice, forecasted freezing temperatures, which may result in continued unsafe road conditions, and the significant amount of work needed to clear campus entries and driveways once it’s safe for crews to do so,” GCS said in a statement.

A decision about Wednesday will be made on Tuesday (Feb. 3) afternoon. 

“Because we are an approved eLearning district, the day does not need to be made up, provided instruction is provided to students,” according to the statement.

Students will complete eLearning assignments later if they are unable to participate due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers. Schools will provide details on the eLearning process. eLearning Information and Resources are available on the District’s website. Once operations resume, school personnel will begin rescheduling events as appropriate.

District 1

“Thanks to our latest round of real snow, Spartanburg One will hold an E Learning Day on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026. This decision was made based on current snow and ice, along with forecast freezing temperatures that could result in continued unsafe road conditions.”

All after-school activities and events scheduled for Monday are cancelled.

“Enjoy the snow and stay safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the winter of 2026 together,” they wrote on Facebook.

District 2

“This weekend’s snowstorm has prompted us to make Monday, February 2, an eLearning Day in our District. Your students’ schools will be in touch regarding assignments,” D2 wrote in a social media post.

Additionally, all after-school activities and athletics have been cancelled for tomorrow.

“We appreciate your trust and understanding during this recent run of winter weather in our area,” they wrote.

District 3

Spartanburg School District Three will be closed on Monday, Feb. 2, for an eLearning Day. All after-school and athletic events are cancelled.

“Between existing snowfall and unusually low overnight temperatures, many D3 roads are expected to remain unsafe for travel,” D3 wrote in a Facebook post.

“We will continue to monitor road conditions and share updates as needed. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” they wrote.

District 4

District 4 schools will be closed on Monday, Feb. 2. This will be an eLearning day for students. Teachers will communicate with parents and/or students regarding assignments to be completed.

District 5

Due to snow-covered roads, hazardous driving conditions, and extremely cold temperatures, all Spartanburg District Five schools and offices will be closed on Monday. Monday will be an eLearning day for students.

All extracurricular activities and events are cancelled.

“We know many were hoping for a return to normal, but winter had one more plan in mind,” they wrote on social media. “As always, safety is our top priority in District Five. Please stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy the snow.”

District 6

“As you know, significant snowfall continues to impact our community. This message probably comes as no surprise that Monday, Feb. 2, will be an E-Learning Day,” D6 wrote in a social post.

All after-school activities, including the February School Board Meeting, have also been cancelled.

“Please stay safe and continue to monitor our school communication outlets for updates. We truly appreciate your flexibility as we navigate this unusually active winter weather season,” D6 wrote on Facebook.

District 7

eLEARNING day announced for Monday, Feb. 2.

Thanks to our latest round of real snow, District 7 will hold an eLearning day on Monday, Feb. 2. All after-school activities and events are also cancelled.

D7 will monitor conditions and decide by early Monday afternoon whether to proceed with Tuesday.

Spartanburg Day School will be closed on Monday, Feb. 2, due to unsafe road conditions following this weekend’s snowfall. All extracurricular activities are also cancelled.

Anderson County school announces school plans

District 1

“Due to icy and dangerous road conditions, Anderson School District One will have an eLearning Day on Monday, February 2,” according to a social media post.

“We will continue to assess the road conditions across the district and share further updates as soon as decisions are made,” D1 wrote.

District 2

Due to icy road conditions, Anderson Two will move to an eLearning day on Monday, Feb. 2, to ensure the safety of students and staff. All extracurricular activities and athletic events scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, are postponed.

“Following the snow this weekend, many of our roads are still dangerous for travel, and they are not expected to significantly improve by tomorrow due to the cold temperatures,” according to D2 on social media.

“We will continue to work closely with emergency management officials to monitor the conditions, and will provide further updates as necessary. Our plan is to make a decision tomorrow by 5 p.m. on the status of school for Tuesday.

“As a reminder, teachers will provide details regarding all eLearning assignments. Students will have 5 days to complete their work.

“We appreciate your flexibility and support as we navigate this winter weather.”

District 3

“Due to hazardous road conditions across our district, Anderson 3 will observe an eLearning Day on Monday, Feb. 2,” D3 wrote in a social media post.

District 4

Anderson School District Four will operate on an eLearning Day tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 2.

All school buildings will be closed, and students will complete assignments from home. Teachers will share learning activities through their usual platforms.

“After monitoring our district roads and schools, a determination will be made Monday evening regarding Tuesday’s plans,” D4 wrote in a social media post.

“Our priority is always the safety of our students, families, and staff, while continuing meaningful learning whenever possible. We appreciate your flexibility and partnership as we navigate weather-related challenges together,” D4 wrote.

District 5

Anderson Five will eLearn on Monday, Feb. 2, due to hazardous road conditions making school bus routes and road travel unsafe.

“We will keep you updated on our operational status as we continue to monitor the situation,” D5 wrote in a social media post.

Monday, Feb. 2

  • Essential personnel only on campus
  • Montgomery and Wilson Hall open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Weisiger and Gibbs will be open for in-season team use only from noon – 6 p.m. 
  • All other buildings remain closed
  • Dining hours are adjusted to:
    • Gee Dining Hall:Brunch: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.Dinner: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Freshens: Closed
  • Student-athletes will continue to receive guidance from their coaches on team schedules, and flexibility will remain for those who are unable to safely return to campus. USC Upstate will move to online classes

Due to the likelihood of hazardous road conditions from refreezing snow and to keep everyone safe, USC Upstate will move to online classes and remote work on Monday, Feb. 2, according to a Facebook post.

Students should contact their professors with any questions, and faculty and staff should contact their supervisor as needed.

“We encourage you to continue to monitor the USC Upstate website, social media channels and SpartAlerts for updates. Stay safe and warm, Spartans!,” they wrote.
